The research aims to reveal the expressive potential of onomatopoeic elements in F. S. Fitzgerald’s novel “This Side of Paradise”. The authors consider the semantic properties of onomatopoeia, the integrating function of which is to make the entire canvas of the literary work “come to life” to the greatest possible extent, allowing the reader to “hear” characters’ real flow of life in the examined novel. This accounts for scientific novelty of the research, which lies in carrying out a semantic classification and identification of expressive functions performed by onomatopoeic lexemes in the studied work. The research findings demonstrate the special role that onomatopoeic elements play in F. S. Fitzgerald’s individual style.
