Fission Fragment Radiolysis in Ethane-Ammonia System

Abstract

Upon examining the effect of the presence of fission fragments (FF) on the formation by radiolysis of ethylamine and n-butane in ethane-ammonia system, no difference was discerned in the G-value, observed in the range of 1-14 kgjcm 2 , between radiation containing FF and others devoid of FF-mixed radiations from reactor and 6°C o r·rays. This result would indicate that the predominant reaction in the core of FF track is proton transfer from positive ions to ammonia, as in the case of r-radiolysis. Rising total pressure of the system was found to bring about a decrease in G (C 2 H 5 NH 2 ) and an increase in G(n-C4H 10 ). This behavior of the G-values indicates ionic formation of ethylamine by the reaction;C 2 H, + + NH 3 ------> C,H,NH 3 + ~ C 2 H 5 NH 2 +H.
