Fishes of Colorado

Abstract: UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDIES have been successfully introduced in several localities. Two genera of Silurids are represented in Colorado. a. Tail entire or but slightly notched; size small to medium; adults generally less than sixteen inches in length FISHES OF COLORADO 1 7 Size small, length rarely more than 12 inches, average adults 9 or 10 inches. Spawning season, latter part of May and month of June. Range, New York west into Colorado, south into Texas, very abundant in parts of Michigan and west of the … Show more

“…The lack of an obvious Rho]-induced phenotype in the larval imaginal disc is not due to lack of expression of the transgene at this stage, as we have been able to detect its expression in the eye-imaginal discs of third instar larvae by Northern blotting and by in situ hybridization. Furthermore, other transgenes using this vector are well expressed at early stages of development (our unpublished results;Ellis et al, 1993). It is possible, however, that even higher levels of Rho] transgene expression may result in deleterious effects at earlier stages in development, since changes in cell shape occur even in the larval imaginal disc.…”

“…pGMR is a modified P element vector that contains five copies of a binding site for the transcription factor Glass located upstream of a TATA element (see Materials and methods). Expression from this promoter is initially restricted to all the cells of the eye-imaginal disc that are located posterior to the morphogenetic furrow (Ellis et al, 1993) and is maintained during later stages of eye development.…”

“…The Jordan party seined razorback sucker in the Uncompahgre and Gunnison rivers near Delta, CO. However, Ellis (1914) captured no razorback sucker in 1912 in either the Uncompahgre or the lower Gunnison rivers near Grand Junction, CO, but did collect three from the Colorado River near Grand Junction, which contrasted with his ready collection of other sucker species in the Uncompahgre and Gunnison rivers. Later, Chamberlain (1946) noted that razorback sucker were found only in the lower portion of the Gunnison River near its confluence with the Colorado River, which may have been the source of the fish.…”

“…A comparative study of the biological activity of glycosylated and non-glycosylated prolactin was performed by the pigeon crop sac assay (21). Preparations were administered to 30 doves (1 0 birds in a group) in equal doses (10,20 and 40 pg, respectively). Intracutaneous injections (0.1 mL) were made in each side of the crop sac daily for 4 days.…”
