Fish communities and related environmental conditions of the lower Boise River, southwestern Idaho, 1974-2004

Abstract: Temperature in degrees Celsius (°C) may be converted to degrees Fahrenheit (°F) as follows:°F =(1.8×°C)+32. Specific conductance is given in microsiemens per centimeter at 25 degrees Celsius (µS/cm at 25°C). Concentrations of chemical constituents in water are given either in milligrams per liter (mg/L) or micrograms per liter (µg/L). Datums Vertical coordinate information is referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Horizontal coordinate information is referenced to the North American… Show more

“…The RFI score of 58 for Mason Creek is comparable to RFI scores calculated for the Boise River reach near Middleton, indicating intermediate biotic integrity (MacCoy, 2006). The lack of sculpin, which is a heavily weighted metric for the RFI, and the presence of invasive and tolerant species in Mason Creek at Wells Road (site M2) probably influenced the lower intermediate score.…”

“…The targeted fish species were based on the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality 2005recommendation that fish tissue samples should be representative of the Hg exposures likely encountered from recreational or subsistence fishing, and upon previous fish sampling at selected locations in the Boise and Snake Rivers and Brownlee Reservoir (table 2; Clark and Maret, 1998;Richter and Chandler, 2003;MacCoy, 2006).…”

“…The fish species to be targeted in this monitoring plan are listed in table 4. The selection of target species was based on both the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (2005) recommendation that fish tissue samples should represent the mercury exposures likely encountered from recreational or subsistence fishing and on the results of previous fish sampling at these locations (table 1; Clark and Maret, 1998;Richter, 2003;MacCoy, 2006). The goal is to collect 10 harvestable-size fish of a target species for individual mercury analysis.…”
