Fisetin and Its Role in Chronic Diseases

Abstract: Chronic inflammation is a prolonged and dysregulated immune response leading to a wide variety of physiological and pathological conditions such as neurological abnormalities, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, pulmonary diseases, immunological diseases, cancers, and other life-threatening conditions. Therefore, inhibition of persistent inflammation will reduce the risk of inflammation-associated chronic diseases. Inflammation-related chronic diseases require chronic treatment without side effects. Us… Show more

“…It also represents antiviral function (Zakaryan et al, 2017). Fisetin is a commercially available nutraceutical with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-tumorigenic, anti-invasive, anti-angiogenic, anti-diabetic, neuroprotective and cardioprotective effects (Pal, Pearlman, & Afaq, 2016). Interestingly, fisetin has an anti-noroviral activity by inducing cytokines (Seo & Choi, 2017).…”

“…Red-colored foods tend to be high in certain (phyto)nutrients that may confer antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating activities such as ascorbic acid, lycopene, astaxanthin, fisetin, and the wider class of anthocyanins. Chronic inflammation is closely associated with a dysfunctional and dysregulated immune response, ultimately resulting in a wide variety of conditions such as cancers, neurological abnormalities, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, pulmonary diseases, immunological diseases, and other life-threatening conditions [51].…”

“…Fisetin, a flavonol present in strawberries, apples, persimmons, onions, kiwi, and cucumbers, has been recently demonstrated to exert not only potent neuroprotective effects but also different anti-tumor activities [33,34]. In PCa, it was shown to specifically bind to the AR LBD.…”
