“…Ibrahim et al compared levels of PTX-3 in the serum of patients with primary and recurrent pregnancy loss and in women with successful pregnancies during the same week of pregnancy. Their results showed that levels of PTX-3 were highest in women who miscarried and correlated with the number of earlier pregnancy losses 25 . The results of this study correspond with those of Ibrahim et al Furthermore, within this study, the highest values of PTX-3 were seen in samples obtained from women falling into the NETs-positive group which indicates that levels of PTX-3 increase along with an increase in the associated NETs factors.…”

“…Earlier research on PTX-3 in NETs showed that PTX-3 plays a key role in regulating the proper development of pregnancy and the inflammatory response, such as in preeclampsia. An uncontrolled inflammatory reaction is believed to be the primary cause of unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss 24 , 25 . It has been proven that the gene responsible for PTX-3 activation is activated during the early gestation period.…”

“…Metwally et al (21) performed a proteomic analysis of obese and overweight women with RSA by 2-D gel electrophoresis, principle component analysis and mass spectrometry, and demonstrated that RSA patients exhibit a significant increase in haptoglobin expression. Ibrahim et al (22) demonstrated that pentraxin-3 indicates the presence of abnormally exaggerated intrauterine inflammation that may cause pregnancy failure in females with unexplained RSA. Kim et al (23) identified RSA-associated factors in human blood samples by 2-D gel electrophoresis, and analyzed spots samples with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight/mass spectrometry, and reported that in RSA patients, inter-α-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain family member 4 (ITI-H4) expression was low and exhibited a molecular weight of 120 kDa in controls; however, ITI-H4 was expressed at higher levels and at a modified molecular weight of 36 kDa in the RSA patient group.…”

“…The classification of “unexplained etiology” required a lack of antiphospholipid antibodies (i.e. lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin) and normal test results for karyotyping (maternal and paternal), oral glucose tolerance, and thyroid function . Women with missed spontaneous abortion in the first trimester of the present pregnancy, but with no history of REPL and at least one previous uneventful pregnancy with no adverse outcomes were enrolled into a control group.…”
