The paper summarizes results of work on the geochronological confirmation of the age of metamorphic structures occurring at the base of the Precambrian of the north of the Urals and the age of overlying Upper Precambrian basal sediments. It is shown that the occurrences of early stages of metamorphism of rocks of metamorphic (polymetamorphic) complexes date back to about 2.1 Ga. Their substrate is unambiguously related to the Lower Precambrian. We determined that Mesoproterozoic strata are absent Upper Precambrian sections of the north of the Urals, in contrast to more southern regions of the Urals. The basal strata in the Lyapin and Kharbey-Marunkeu anticlinoria, according to the data obtained, are dated to the Middle Neoproterozoic (cryogenian). The established fact of the absence of deposits of a huge age interval (Mesoproterozoic — at least 600 Ma) in the north of the Urals can be explained by a high standing of the territory of the northeast (in modern coordinates) of the Baltic craton, a fragment of which at that time was the Timan-Northern Ural lithospheric segment, and the location in the interiors of the Columbia (Nuna) supercontinent.

A review of the materials obtained over the past decade on the geology and tectonics of the North Urals and its continuation in the basement of the West-Siberian Plate allows us to clarify and supplement characteristics of the geological features of the region, and substantiate our new conclusions. We suggested more precise vertical division of complexes developed in the region into structural stages: Archean-Paleoproterozoic, Riphean-Vendian (Timanides), Paleozoic-Early Jurassic (Uralides, which consist of the Uralide sensu stricto and the Old Kimmerian sub-stages), platform, and the neo-Orogenic stages. New data were presented in support of the initially unified island-arc nature of the Schuchya, Voikar, and Khulga areas of the Tagil arc sensu lato, while an alternative interpretation of the origin of zircon clusters from volcanic-sedimentary island-arc complexes, for which the mantle but not microcontinental source was supposed, is given. A complex orocline structure of the Ural-Pai-Khoi bend of the primarily linear island arc due to the twostage collision of the arc with the continent in the Early Carboniferous and then in the Early Jurassic, is characterized. Using PUT sesmic transect and drilling data allowed us to clarify the synform structure of the axial part and the eastern limb of the Tagil synclinorium and its transition to the East Urals zone. New data have been obtained confirming the existence of a northwestern tectonic boundary under the central part of the Yamal Peninsula, which corresponds to the contact of the Paleozoides and the submerged part of the Siberian Platform. An abnormally high concentration of hydrocarbon deposits on the Yamal Peninsula are associated with the presence of rift junction intensively developed over the superplume branch and high-density heat flow, which characterizes the zone of high geodynamic activity permeable to deep fluid-gas flows.

Research subject. Upper Precambrian metaterrigenous deposits of the northern part of the Lyapinsky anticlinorium in the Subpolar Urals.Material and methods. From the metaterrigenous rocks of the Upper Precambrian section of different stratigraphic levels, monofractions of zircons were isolated and their optical and isotope-geochronological (U-Pb LA-SF-ICPMS) studies were performed.Results. Age boundaries of the formation of the Puivinskaya, Khobeinskaya, and Moroinskaya Formations in the Subpolar Urals were specified. A comparison was carried out of age populations of detrital zircons from metaterrigenous deposits of the Subpolar Urals and terrigenous sequences of adjacent regions similar in age. The age boundaries and the proposed location of crystalline complexes, the probable provenance areas of terrigenous material, were established.Conclusions. The lower age limit of the formation of the basal layers of the Upper Precambrian of the Subpolar Urals does not go beyond the Late Riphean. The north-eastern periphery of the East European Platform, including the Subpolar Urals, in the Late Precambrian belonged to the same continental margin, and the accumulation of the Middle-North Timan and Subpolar Ural Upper Riphean sediments occurred in the common sedimentation basin. The lower age boundary of the formation of the Puivinskaya Formation (about 1000 Ma) determines the probable formation time of the Timan passive margin.
