We analyse the direct detection of neutralino dark matter in supergravity scenarios with non-universal soft scalar and gaugino masses. In particular, the neutralino-nucleon cross section is computed and compared with the sensitivity of detectors. We take into account the most recent experimental and astrophysical constraints on the parameter space, including those coming from charge and colour breaking minima. Gaugino non-universalities provide a larger flexibility in the neutralino sector. In particular, when combined with non-universal scalars, neutralinos close to the present detection limits are possible with a wide range of masses, from over 400 GeV to almost 10 GeV. We study the different possibilities which allow to increase or decrease the neutralino mass and explain the properties of those regions in the parameter space with a large cross section.

One IGEX 76 Ge double-beta decay detector is currently operating in the Canfranc Underground Laboratory in a search for dark matter WIMPs, through the Ge nuclear recoil produced by the WIMP elastic scattering. A new exclusion plot, σ(m), has been derived for WIMP-nucleon spin-independent interactions. To obtain this result, 40 days of data from the IGEX detector (energy threshold E thr ∼ 4 keV), recently collected, have been analyzed. These data improve the exclusion limits derived from all the other ionization germanium detectors in the mass region from 20 GeV to 200 GeV, where a WIMP supposedly responsible for the annual modulation effect reported by the DAMA experiment would be located. The new IGEX exclusion contour enters, by the first time, the DAMA region by using only raw data, with no background discrimination, and excludes its upper left part. It is also shown that with a moderate improvement of the detector performances, the DAMA region could be fully explored.

The present status of the ANAIS experiment (Annual Modulation with NaI's) is shown. ANAIS is intended to use more than 100 kg of NaI(Tl) in the Canfranc Underground Laboratory (Spain) searching for seasonal modulation effects in the WIMP signal; in a first stage, a prototype (one single 10.7 kg crystal) has been developed in order to obtain the best conditions regarding the energy threshold and the radioactive background in the low energy region as well as to check the stability of the environmental conditions. The first results corresponding to an exposure of 2069.85 kg day show an average background level of 1.2 counts/(keV kg day) from threshold (E thr ∼ 4 keV, even using one single photomultiplier) up to 10 keV.
