First Report of Three Tylenchidae Taxa from Southern Alberta, Canada

Abstract: Members of the family Tylenchidae are highly abundant in soil habitats, including agricultural settings, where they play key ecological roles. In the present study, we identified three Tylenchidae species, namely Basiria bhabi, Coslenchus acceptus, and Filenchus vulgaris, using integrative taxonomy. The detailed morphological and morphometric characteristics, distribution, and host associations of each species were also discussed. Phylogenetic analyses of these populations with other Tylenchidae nematodes indi… Show more

“…Understanding the existing biodiversity of PPNs is important because of their wide range of survival adaptations and dispersal routes [24,25,27]. In our prior nematode inventory surveys, Nothotylenchus species were never detected because some field areas The results of both phylogenetic trees support the inclusion of Nothotylenchus species in the family Anguinidae and indicate that Nothotylenchus species are not monophyletic.…”

“…They do not represent economically important plant pathogens and are therefore grouped as weak plant parasites Siddiqi, 2000). In fact, their feeding behavior is still debatable, considering the fact that food preferences of most of the described species are unknown (Munawar et al, 2021). Some members are regarded as root hair feeders while several members of Filenchus Andrássy, 1954 can feed and reproduce on fungi (Bert et al, 2010;Okada et al, 2005;Siddiqi, 2000).…”

Notwithstanding the mystery of their feeding behavior, members of this group play important ecological roles as soil health indicators (Bongers and Bongers, 1998;Munawar et al, 2021).…”
