Objetivo. Determinar las características biológicas y moleculares de las cepas de Panstrongylus sp. nativas del norte del Perú. Métodos. Estudio observacional, descriptivo. Se utilizó material biológico procedente de 5 diferentes regiones del norte del Perú, y por muestreo intencional se seleccionó una muestra de 50 especímenes. Para la caracterización de los especímenes a nivel molecular, se usó el marcador ITS-2 del ADN ribosomal, mediante la técnica del PCR. Resultados. El 100% de las muestras fueron clasificadas como Panstrongylus herreri. A nivel molecular se observaron 3 patrones diferentes de la banda ITS-2: 960pb, 800pb y 750pb. Conclusión. 100% de las muestras fueron Panstrongylus herreri, capturados en ambientes intradomiciliarios de regiones del norte del Perú, con un patrón de ITS-2.

“…Several species of triatomines have recently been reported in Brazilian states: Rhodnius montenegrensis (Rosa et al, 2012) in Amazonas 24 ; T. sordida and Rhodnius neglectus (Lent, 1954); Rhodnius stali (Lent, Jurberg, and Galvão, 1993); R. montenegrensis, P. megistus, and Panstrongylus rufotuberculatus (Champion, 1899); Panstrongylus lignarius (Walker, 1873) in Acre [25][26][27][28][29][30][31] ; P. lignarius and P. megistus in Rondonia 29,32 ; and, now, T. infestans in Espírito Santo. These ento-epidemiological surveys are of great importance for public health because the knowledge of fauna (local, regional, municipal, and/or state) of triatomines directly assists in the activities of vector control programs.…”

Chagas disease is a potentially life-threatening illness caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi and transmitted, mainly, by hematophagous insects of the Triatominae subfamily. In Brazil, there are currently about 66 triatomine species distributed throughout the country’s 27 states. Triatoma infestans is considered as a species of great vectorial importance, mainly because of its biological characteristics, such as the high degree of anthropophilia, adaptation to the home environment, ability to withstand long periods of fasting, and present a wide geographical distribution. Taking into account the epidemiological importance of these species, we carried out the first report of T. infestans in the Espírito Santo, Brazil, and development of an identification key for all species notified in that state, based on cytogenetic data. This information is important because they contribute to the direction of epidemiological surveillance activities carried out by vector control programs of the Espírito Santo, Brazil.

INTRODUCTION: Triatomines are hematophagous insects that are important to public health since they are the vectors of American Trypanosomiasis. The objective of this study was to describe the occurrence of triatomines in homes in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, Brazil. METHODS The specimens were collected by an active search inside homes and also by a passive search by the residents. RESULTS: A total of 55 triatomines were captured comprising of 5 species each of the genera Rhodnius , Eratyrus , and Panstrongylus . No colonies were detected, ruling out the possibility of domiciliation. CONCLUSIONS: Information on regional epidemiological dynamics contributes to the prevention and control of disease.
