“…As in our previous observational studies, we chose not to measure post-void residuals so as to minimize unnecessary manipulation that potentially may influence voiding function [18], and therefore we cannot with certainty make any statements in this regard. However, the presence of a higher outlet resistance as suggested by the lower Q max in these boys may be implicated, as reported by Ozkurkcugil et al who found obstruction in 61% and an overactive detrusor in 46% in pressure flow studies of 4-year-old boys with hypospadias prior to operation [19].…”

“…Furthermore, it has been reported that the rate of urethral obstruction is about 61% in hypospadiac patients, and detrussor overactivity (DO) is more usual in these patients. In addition, none of these patients had any obstructive voiding symptoms or abnormal uroradiological findings [25] . But, in that study, the prognostic importance of urethral obstruction and DO remained uncertain as hypospadias repair had not been performed.…”

“…The bladder condition might present another risk factor for VUR in these patients. Ozkurkcugil et al 16 detected an overactive detrusor in 17 of 37 children (45.9%) with hypospadias, approximately four times the frequency reported for healthy infants and children. 17 This could be related to a urethral abnormality, as we suggested.…”
