“…The work reported in the current paper examined the infection process of two isolates of C . truncatum causing anthracnose of economic importance in lentil ( Lens culinaris ; Morrall, 1988; Venette et al ., 1994; Kaiser et al ., 1998) and broad bean ( Vicia faba ; Buchwaldt et al ., 1996) and compared them with stages in the disease cycle of anthracnose caused by C . destructivum from lucerne and cowpea.…”

“…Moore is a relatively new foliar disease in North America and was first discovered in Manitoba in 1987 (Morrall 1988) and in Saskatchewan in 1990 (Morrall and Pedersen 1991). The disease spread southward and was first reported in North Dakota in 1992 (Venette et al 1994). Anthracnose is one of the most important constraints for production of lentil in North America and can cause up to 100% yield loss in the worst scenarios where short crop rotations, frequent rainfall and high humidity prevail (Gibson et al 1991;Buchwaldt et al 1992).…”

“…In Canada, the disease was first reported in the province of Manitoba in 1987 (Morrall 1988). A few years later it was found in both Saskatchewan (Morrall and Pedersen 1991) and North Dakota, United States (Venette et al 1994). Anthracnose of lentil has also been reported from Bulgaria, Morocco, Ethiopia, Syria, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Brazil (Bellar and Kebabeh 1983;Baldanzi et al 1988;Morrall 1997;Kaiser et al 1998).…”
