First report of biovar 6 in birds immunized against Gallibacterium anatis in poultry farms located in Sonora, Mexico.

Abstract: Identification of the predominant circulating biovars is important for controlling Gallibacterium anatis infections in poultry because efficient protection is based on the use of biovar-specific immunogens. Twenty-three isolates of Gallibacterium anatis were recovered from commercial laying hens with respiratory and reproductive clinical signs. Bacteria were identified as G. anatis based on morphology, biochemistry, and PCR testing. Biochemical analyses identified the isolates as biovar 6 which had not previou… Show more

“…In addition, G. anatis infection may induce a 3–18% reduction in egg production in layers (Jones et al 2013 ), while in breeders, it causes an increasing mortality rate of 0.06–4.9% (Elbestawy et al 2018 ). Mixed respiratory and reproductive disorders could be noticed in layers and breeder chicken flocks (Ataei et al 2017 ; Chavez et al 2017a ; Abd El-Hamid et al 2018 ). Elewa ( 2021 ) diagnosed G. anatis in layer chickens suffering from sneezing, rales, gasping, coughing, head swelling, and a 5–10% drop in egg production.…”

“…Esta bacteria es altamente variable, ya que actualmente se describen 24 biovares por pruebas bioquímicas utilizando diferentes azucares (Osuna et al, 2017). Las bacterias altamente variables sufren frecuentemente nuevos cambios genéticos, ya sea por mutaciones debido a su adaptación al medio en que se desarrollan o como consecuencia del intercambio de material genético entre los mismos (Mendoza et al, 2014).…”
