“…In larvae of the megalopteran ingroup Corydalidae, these processes are elongate and tapering distally and are not subdivided into several elements (Gepp, 1984). In larvae of the megalopteran ingroup Sialidae these processes also taper distally, but are further subdivided into multiple elements (New & Theischinger, 1993;Bowles & Contreras-Ramos, 2016). The abdomen processes in Megaloptera can bear numerous setae, very similar to the condition in the fossil larva.…”

“…Yet, in some larvae of Sialidae this unpaired structure is strongly elongated (unfortunately termed 'terminal filament') and tapering distally ( Fig. 5A; Bowles & Contreras-Ramos, 2016). In fossil representatives of the lineage it is less elongated, but also tapering distally ( Fig.…”

“…Endemism in Megaloptera is fairly common, even at the genus level (e.g., Chloroniella in South Africa, Dysmicohermes and Orohermes in western North America, Madachauliodes in Madagascar, and Apochauliodes and Austrosialis in Australia). Regarding the taxonomic knowledge of the larval stages, mature larvae are described for six genera of Corydalinae ( Acanthacorydalis , Chloronia , Corydalus , Neoneuromus , Platyneuromus , and Protohermes ), 13 genera of Chauliodinae ( Apochauliodes , Archichauliodes , Chauliodes , Dysmicohermes , Madachauliodes , Neochauliodes , Neohermes , Nigronia , Orohermes , Parachauliodes , Platychauliodes , Protochauliodes , and Taeniochauliodes ), and seven genera ( Austrosialis , Haplosialis , Ilyobius , Indosialis , Leptosialis , Sialis , and Stenosialis ) of Sialidae [4,16,17,18].…”

“…Among these papers, there are the first descriptions of the larvae representing four Asian endemic genera, i.e. Acanthacorydalis (Cao et al, 2013), Neoneuromus (Cao et al, 2016), Anachauliodes (Tu et al, 2019), and Indosialis (Bowles & Contreras-Ramos, 2016). Besides, there are a few reports on the larvae of some species of Chloroniella (Martins & Contreras-Ramos, 2020), Corydalus (Azevêdo & Hamada, 2006, 2007, and Ilyobius (Archangelsky et al, 2017).…”
