First record of the bee genus Homalictus Cockerell for China with description of a new species (Hymenoptera: Halictidae: Halictini)

Abstract: This paper reports the first record of the genus Homalictus from China. We describe and illustrate H. (H.) nabanensis sp. n. collected from the Naban River Watershed National Nature Reserve, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China. The type specimens are deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.

“…A new name is required for Pauly’s species, so we propose the replacement name Lasioglossum ( Homalictus ) minuens . Some authors still maintain usage of Homalictus at the generic level ( Campbell et al 2007 ; Michener 2007 ; Groom et al 2013 ; Niu et al 2013 ; Dorey et al 2019 ), which would make L. minuens a junior synonym of Pauly’s name in that classification based on article 59.4 of the Code.…”

“…The halictid bee genus Thrinchostoma Saussure, 1890 currently consists of about 50 species of three subgenera: Diagonozus Enderlein, 1903;Eothrincostoma Blüthgen, 1930; and Thrinchostoma s. str. Saussure, 1890(Michener, 2007Michener & Engel, 2010;Niu et al, 2016). Among them, all these subgenera occur in Africa and Madagascar, while in the Asian region, mostly recognized species belong to the subgenus Thrinchostoma s. str.…”

“…Considering also the distinctive hind tibial vestiture in females, Michener (2007) indicated Patellapis Friese, 1909 as the most probable sister group of Homalictus, suggesting that the weak distal wing veins of Homalictus and Lasioglossum may have arisen independently. Since then, most taxonomists have considered Homalictus as a genus (Michener, 1980a(Michener, , 1980b(Michener, , 2007Gollan et al, 2011;Niu et al, 2013;Pauly et al, 2015;Groom et al, 2017;Grieve et al, 2018;Hall, 2018;Houston, 2018;Dorey et al, 2019), even though phylogenetic analyses using morphological and molecular data have shown consistently that Homalictus likely arose within Lasioglossum (Danforth, 1999;Danforth et al, 1999Danforth et al, , 2003Danforth & Ji, 2001;Danforth & Almeida, 2008;Gibbs et al, 2012Gibbs et al, , 2013Murao et al, 2015).…”
