First record of Permian age palynomorphs in the Río Francia Formation (Upper Paleozoic, San Juan, Argentina)

Abstract

Resumen: En este trabajo se presenta el contenido palinológico de las secciones media y alta de la Formación Río Francia (Cuenca Paganzo). De niveles carbonosos de la sección media de la unidad se obtuvieron dos asociaciones palinológicas atribuibles a la Biozona DM (Raistrickia densa-Convolutispora muriornata), dominadas por esporas trilete y escasos granos de polen monosacados. De lutitas carbonosas de la parte superior de la Formación Río Francia, se obtuvo una tercera asociación palinológica, dominada por granos de polen bisacados, monosacados y estriados, con escasas esporas triletes. “…The palynoassemblage of the present study shows a correlation with the Permo‐Carboniferous palynoassemblage from the Río Francia Formation of San Juan Province, Argentina (Gutiérrez, Correa, & Carrevedo, 2010). The middle portion of this Formation comprises Callumispora ( Punctatisporites ), Calamospora sp., Parasaccites ( Cannanoropollis ), Crucisaccites , whereas the upper part of this formation is dominated by monosaccate, bisaccate, and striate pollen grains like Parasaccites ( Cannanoropollis ), Crucisaccites latisulcatus , Faunipollenites ( Protohaploxypinus ) , Scheuringipollenites barakarensis , Striatopodocarpites , Weylandites , and scarce trilete spores.…”
