First-principles investigation of diffusion behaviours of H isotopes: From W(110) surface into bulk and in bulk W

Abstract: The diffusion behaviours of hydrogen (H), deuterium (D), and tritium (T) from W(110) surface into bulk and in bulk W are investigated using first-principles calculations combined with simplified models. The diffusion energy barrier is shown to be 1.87 eV from W(110) surface to the subsurface, along with a much reduced barrier of 0.06 eV for the reverse diffusion process. After H enters into the bulk, its diffusion energy barrier with quantum correction is 0.19 eV. In terms of the diffusion theory presented by … Show more

“…[13] Taiquan [14] calculated the interaction of a Ge atom with the vacancy in silicon single crystal and found the stable complexes. Liu et al [15] investigated the diffusion behaviors of H isotopes in W, and calculated the diffusion factor of H, which is in agreement with the experimental value. Zhou et al [16] studied the carbon trapping mechanism in copper, and found that a monovacancy is capable of trapping as many as four C atoms to form a C n V complex.…”

“…[2,9,13,18,19] The stability of the underlying closed-loop system is analyzed based on the Lyapunov stability theorem. To cope with the fuzzy approximation error, these adaptive controllers are commonly incorporated with a robust control term that can be a supervisory control, [16,17,20] variable structure control, [13,14] and sliding mode control.…”

“…In the fusion reactor, some components, such as the first wall, the divertor, and the structural materials exposed to plasma particles and electromagnetic radiation, will be irradiated by high energy neutrons, [1][2][3][4][5][6] which induces the degradation of the series properties and the residual radioactivity of the exposed materials. In order to efficiently utilize the fusion power, tremendous efforts have been devoted to searching for the suitable structural materials in the last few decades.…”
