Abstract:Tumors include a heterogeneous population, of which a small proportion includes drug-resistant cancer (stem) cells. In drug-sensitive cancer populations, first-line chemotherapy reduces tumor volume via apoptosis. However, it stimulates drug-resistant cancer populations and finally results in tumor recurrence.
