First isolation of Gardnerella vaginalis

Abstract: First Isolation of Gardnerella vaginalis Salmon et al. (3) stated that Gardnerella vaginalis was first described by Gardner and Dukes in 1955 (1). The organism was actually first isolated and described by Leopold in 1953 in a now defunct journal (2). His description, though brief, appears to be correct in all particulars.
