“…44.566) has been deposited in the Prisco Bezerra Herbarium of the Federal University of Ceará for future reference. The lipid transfer protein McLTP 1 was purified from defatted noni seed flour, as previously described by Campos et al (2016). The purity of McLTP 1 was assessed by non-reducing 15% sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE; Laemmli 1970).…”

“…Morinda citrifolia L., Rubiaceae, is a plant species native to tropical Asia, whose roots, bark, and fruits have been used for the treatment of several diseases, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, inflammation, and pain management (Torres et al 2017). Recently, Campos et al (2016) isolated a thermostable lipid transfer protein (LTP) from M. citrifolia seeds, named McLTP 1 (UniProt KB accession number: C0HJH5) that exhibited anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities when administered orally in mice. According to Campos et al (2017), the anti-inflammatory effects of McLTP 1 involve the modulation of the levels of pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α).…”

“…The results of formalin test indicated that TA had central and peripheral anti-nociceptive properties. As is known to all, naloxone is a one of non-selective opioid receptor antagonists [22]. Pretreatment with naloxone (2 mg/kg) didn't reverse the antinociceptive activity of TA administered orally.…”

“…Finally, purification is completed by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), in which the nonpolar amino acid residues of nsLTPs adhere to the hydrophobic chain matrix (ranging from C 4 to C 18 ). These combinations ensure yields of 10 to 773 mg of nsLTPs per kilogram of seeds [ 77 , 87 , 90 , 91 ] and 4.2 mg of nsLTPs per gram of extracted proteins [ 85 ].…”

“…In addition to the antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and inhibitory activities, pharmacological studies have shown that nsLTPs have antinociceptive activity, making them a promising alternative to current drugs available on the market that demonstrates high toxicity and low efficacy. McLTP1 obtained from M. citrifolia seeds demonstrated pain-related modulatory activity in vivo and did not show neurological disorders such as locomotor activity, suggesting that the nsLTP antinociceptive response was highly selective [ 87 ].…”
