First extraction of the 3.42 A GeV 12C beam for studies of baryonic matter at Nuclotron

Abstract: The results of theˇrst extraction of the 3.42A GeV 12 C beam at the Nuclotron and its transportation to the experimental area are presented. It is demonstrated that the beam parameters are sufˇcient for theˇrst phase of the experiments on the studies of the dense baryonic matter at the Nuclotron.

“…Since the multiplicity of the secondary particles is small (2 or 3 tracks) the forward and outer trackers only can be used. The BM@N experimental setup will be installed at the renovated 6V beamline [35] in the fixedtarget hall of the Nuclotron. The 6V beamline contains the quadrupole lenses doublet, two dipole magnets allowing to correct the beam position in the vertical and horizontal planes, and SP41 dipole magnet with enlarged aperture for the momentum measurements [36].…”

“…The other option for the TOF start is the 4 mm scintillation counter viewed from both sides by XP2020 PMT. This counter can be placed in front of the lenses doublet of the 6V beam line [35]. Both start counter options provide similar amount of the additional material.…”

“…The experiment to measure T 20 and C yy for the 3 He(d, p) 4 He -reaction at 1.0-2.0 GeV deuterons energy is planned. The results of this experiment will help to understand the short-range deuteron spin structure. In addition the study of deuterons interaction with protons and nuclei is included in DSS project.…”

“…First extraction of the 3.42 A·GeV carbon beam and of the 4 A·GeV deuteron beam [4] at Nuclotron and their transportation to the beam experimental area and the measurements of dp-elastic scattering, dW-and dAg-quasi-elastic scattering at internal target station at Nuclotron are performed.…”

“…Spin physics with extracted polarized deuteron beam from new polarized deuteron source [32] can be performed with the start version of the BM@N setup [33]. The BM@N experimental setup will be installed at the renovated 6V beamline [34] in the fixed-target hall of the Nuclotron. The 6V beamline contains the quadrupole lenses doublet, two dipole magnets allowing to correct the beam position in the vertical and horizontal planes, and SP-41 dipole magnet with enlarged aperture for the momentum measurements [35].…”
