“…Th e presence of phytoplasma of the 16SrV-C and -D groups in the bodies of O. ishidae was detected for the fi rst time in Europe in Slovenia, in 2009 (Mehle et al 2010). Later the pathogen of group 16SrV-D was also detected in 16% of specimens of O. ishidae collected in vineyards in the Lombardy region of Italy (Gaff uri et al 2011). Th e studies conducted by Gaff uri et al (2011) revealed that the specimens of O. ishidae outnumbered those of well-known fl avescence dorée vector Scaphoideus titanus Ball.…”

“…Recently, the leafhoppers O . alni (Maixner et al ., ; Arnaud et al ., ; Mehle et al ., ) and Orientus ishidae (Matsumura) (Mehle et al ., ; Gaffuri et al ., ; Koczor et al ., ) have been found infected by FDp related strains in Europe; moreover, latest findings revealed the capability of O . ishidae to transmit 16SrV group phytoplasmas to grapevine (Lessio et al ., ).…”

“…and Clematis vitalba and, occasionally, leafhoppers or planthoppers other than S. titanus might act as vectors, acquiring FDp from these alternative reservoirs and transmitting it to grapevine. D. europaea (Linnaeus) (Auchenorrhyncha, Dictyopharidae) has been shown to transmit FDp from C. vitalba to grapevine (Filippin et al, 2009), and the Asian species Orientus ishidae (Matsumura) (Cicadellidae, Deltocephalinae), which has recently introduced in Europe (CABI, 2015), has been recently found harbouring FDp in Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland (Mehle et al, 2010;Gaffuri et al, 2011;Trivellone et al, 2016). D. europaea is rather widely distributed in the EU according to Fauna Europaea (Figure 3).…”
