First CoRoT light curves of RR Lyrae stars

Abstract: Context. The CoRoT -Convection Rotation and planetary Transits -space mission is a great opportunity for monitoring stars with excellent time-sampling and unprecedented photometric precision for up to 150 days. As an important benefit, high-quality RR Lyrae light curves are obtained with a quasi-uninterrupted coverage over several pulsation and Blazhko cycles. Aims. The Blazhko effect in RR Lyrae stars is an unsolved problem of astrophysics. We used the high-precision space data to contribute more precise know… Show more

“…14 in Chadid et al 2010). The Blazhko effect of CoRoT 101128793 is much less than that of V1127 Aql (0.06 mag vs. 0.35 mag in the full range of magnitudes at maximum, 0.02 p vs. 0.17 p in the phases of maximum).…”

“…The two frequencies f 1 and f 2 are not related with the Blazhko or another modulation, as it could be for V1127 Aql (Chadid et al 2010). The frequency f 1 could be typified as the second overtone radial mode, while the nature of f 2 is still unclear.…”

“…They did not detect additional frequencies in the BS Com Fourier spectrum. The nature of the additional frequencies in RR d stars, as well as in Blazhko stars (Chadid et al 2010), needs further investigation. The continuous and unprecedented CoRoT photometric data provide a unique opportunity to obtain an RR d light curve over relatively long time period (150 days) and with a relatively high precision.…”

“…The Stothers theory does not require any non-radial mode, however there has been no unambiguous proof of the nonradial mode presence in RR Lyrae stars so far. Nonradial modes have been identified by Chadid et al (1999) using spectroscopic data of RR Lyr itself, by Gruberbauer et al (2007) using photometric data collected with the MOST satellite of mixed mode pulsator AQ Leo and by Chadid et al (2010) using time series data collected with CoRot of the fundamental RR Lyrae V1127 Aql.…”
