First Constraints on the Complete Neutrino Mixing Matrix with a Sterile Neutrino

Abstract: Neutrino oscillation models involving one extra mass eigenstate beyond the standard three (3 þ 1) are fit to global short baseline experimental data and the recent IceCube ν μ þν μ disappearance search result. We find a best fit of Δm 2 41 ¼ 1.75 eV 2 with Δχ 2 null−min =d:o:f: of 50.61=4. We find that the combined IceCube and short baseline data constrain θ 34 to <80°ð<6°Þ at 90% C.L. for Δm 2 41 ≈ 2ð6Þ eV 2 , which is improved over present limits. Incorporating the IceCube information provides the first cons… Show more

“…Current global fits of the neutrino oscillations experimental data suggest jU e4 j 2 ¼ 0.023-0.028, where the range covers values presented in [33,[68][69][70]. In this study jU e4 j 2 is assumed to be zero.…”

“…The new upper limit from the IceCube Collaboration [63] on sin 2 2θ 24 around the current best-fit ∆m 2 41 1.75 eV 2 [66] is 0.2 at 99% confidence level, which means that θ 24 is constrained to be smaller than 13…”
