First complete genome sequence and molecular characterization of Canine morbillivirus isolated in Central Brazil

Abstract: The Brazilian regions are still highly endemic areas for Canine morbillivirus [canine distemper virus (CDV)]. However, little is known regarding the genetic variability of the strain circulating in several Brazilian regions. Here, we report the first full-length genome and molecular characterization of CDV isolated from domestic dogs in the Brazilian Center-West region. Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analyses based on deduced amino acid and nucleotide sequences showed that the isolated strain is character… Show more

“…Another recent study presented complete genomic data which was acquired by Sanger sequencing method. These papers well represent the increasing need for rapid and specific genomic data generation 46 . Using the amplicon-based NGS sequencing technology is not unique in epidemic situations, but it was fairly used in veterinary health-related events to date.…”

“…Next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies are increasingly being used to detect and characterize pathogens in wildlife [ 41 – 44 ]. MinION (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Oxford, UK) has been used in many areas of virology, for instance, metagenomics or sequencing of complete genomes [ 45 48 ].…”

“…The six structural proteins are nucleocaspid (N), phosphoprotein (P), matrix protein (M), fusion protein (F), hemagglutinin protein (H), and large protein (L). The two non-structural proteins, C and V, are encoded either by mRNA editing or by an alternate ORF in the gene that encodes P protein (da Costa et al 2021).…”
