First complete-genome documentation of HIV-1 intersubtype superinfection with transmissions of diverse recombinants over time to five recipients

Abstract: Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) recombinants in the world are believed to be generated through recombination between distinct HIV-1 strains among coinfection or superinfection cases. However, direct evidence to support transmission of HIV-1 recombinants from a coinfected/superinfected donor to putative recipient is lacking. Here, we report on the origin and evolutionary relationship between a set of recombinants from a CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC superinfected putative donor and diverse CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC rec… Show more

“…A total of 150 gag, 92 pol, and 252 nef cloned sequences were obtained and used for viral evolution analyses. The results showed that, in agreement with our previous studies (27), the patient was first infected with HIV-1 strain CRF01_AE, and then superinfected with a CRF07_BC strain. The latter accounted for 64.52% (20/ 31), 12.50% (3/24), and 8.70% (4/46) of the cloned sequences for the gag, pol, and nef genes at 300 dpi, respectively (Figure 2).…”

“…Patient LNA819 was recruited from a previously described (26)(27)(28)(29) large-scale, prospective, high-risk, MSM cohort in Liaoning Province, China. Briefly, HIV-1-negative MSM were followed up every 8 weeks.…”

“…SARS-CoV-2 posed a significant threat to human lives, and recent studies have reported the rapidly emerged variants and their impact on clinical severity and vaccine protection [7,9,19]. In this study, we aimed to detect whether the coinfection of Considering the rapidly emerged SARS-CoV-2 variants worldwide, we hypothesized that the coinfected variants in hosts would aggravate the clinical severity, increase the change of viral recombination, and posed a greater threat to us [20]. Moreover, the coinfection index can be applied to other viruses in hosts.…”
