Abstract. Nur ‘Aqilah MB, NurJannah S, Salleh S, Thi BK, Ahmad Fitri Z, Mohd Khairul Faizi M, Haja Maideen KM, Nizam MS. 2020. Title. Biodiversitas 21: 1707-1713. Fructification of macrofungi depends on two main factors, abiotic and biotic. In this study, the main focus is to determine the macrofungi composition and diversity as the effect of elevation and substrate. Macrofungi collection was conducted at three different elevations along the trails (Trail A, B, and C) of Gunung Korbu in July 2019. The sampling area was divided by ascent elevation from the Seroja Camp to the Rimba Gate (Trail A, 796 m above sea level[a.s.l]), the Seroja Camp to the Kijang Camp (Trail B, 1092 m a.s.l) and the Kijang Camp to the summit of Gunung Korbu (Trail C, 2183 m a.s.l). The collected macrofungi were photographed, described based on their macroscopic characters and any colour changes when bruising or chemicals reactions were recorded. In total 90 macrofungi specimens were in good condition belonging to 6 families from 13 genera, including the unidentified. About 93.33% (84 specimens) of the collections are saprotrophic fungi and six parasitic fungi. Trail B recorded the highest diversity index of 2.20 and 0.87 for Shannon Index and Simpson index, respectively. Non-metric multidimensional scaling ordinations showed a clear separation pattern of macrofungi community found in three different trails, with most of the specimens found in Trail B.

The twelve generic names proposed by Cope in 1892, which were created without included species, are linked to existing taxa by recognition that Cope’s key is a simple modification of the previous skink generic key by Boulenger in 1887, splitting existing genera of Boulenger in accordance with the morphology of the species included in those genera. This insight allows for Cope’s generic names Dicloniscus, Dimeropus, Haploscincus, Ollochirus, Oncopus, Podoclonium and Tridentulus to be linked to single species in Boulenger’s treatment, and thus those species are identified as the types of those genera, resulting in synonymy of Dicloniscus with Chalcides, Dimeropus with Larutia, Haploscincus with Lipinia, Podoclonium with Scelotes, and Ollochirus, Oncopus and Tridentulus with Lerista. Furcillus, Mesomycterus, Monophorus and Monophyaspis are associated with multiple species in Boulenger’s classification, and type species are designated that minimize change to existing nomenclature but facilitate application of the names to otherwise unnamed lineages in case future divisions are considered warranted. Furcillus becomes a synonym of Lerista, Mesomycterus becomes a synonym of Brachyseps, Monophorus becomes a synonym of Phoboscincus and Monophyaspis becomes a synonym of Trachylepis. Lepidothyrus, for which a type species was previously identified, is a synonym of Mochlus. Reversal of precedence is invoked to avoid the need for use of the senior synonyms Dimeropus and Monophorus over the frequently used Larutia and Phoboscincus, however, Mesomycterus is a senior synonym of Brachyseps, and replaces that recently created name.

Malaysia is recognized as a megadiverse country and biodiversity hotspot, which necessitates sufficient levels of habitat protection and effective conservation management. However, conservation planning in Malaysia has hitherto relied largely on species distribution data without taking into account the rich evolutionary history of taxa. This represents the first study that integrates spatial and evolutionary approaches to identify important centers of diversity, endemism, and bioregionalization that can be earmarked for conservation priorities in Peninsular Malaysia. Using georeferenced species occurrences, comprehensive phylogenies, and threat assessments of frogs and lizards, we employed a spatial phylogenetics framework that incorporates various diversity metrics including weighted endemism, phylogenetic diversity, phylogenetic endemism, and evolutionary distinctiveness and global endangerment. Ten areas of high conservation value were identified via the intersection of these metrics, i.e., northern Perlis, Langkawi Geopark, southern Bintang range, Cameron Highlands, Frasers Hill, Benom-Krau complex, Selangor-Genting complex, Endau-Rompin National Park, Seribuat Archipelago (Tioman and Pemanggil Islands), and southern Johor. Of these, Cameron Highlands requires the highest conservation priority based on severe environmental degradation, inadequately protected areas, and high numbers of endangered and evolutionary distinct species. Other areas, especially in the northwestern (states of Kedah and Penang) and northeastern regions (states of Kelantan) were not only identified as areas of high conservation value but also areas of biogeographic importance. Taken together, frogs and lizards demonstrate distinct east-west and north-south patterns of bioregionalization that are largely modulated by mountain ranges.
