“…In this study, the prevalence rate of delay in surgery start time is within the worldwide range in the previous published reports. [ 15 16 ] Delay in surgery start time, a prevailing problem in developing countries, cuts across hospitals in Nigeria. [ 16 17 18 ] It has led to several cancellations with attendant low output and increased morbidity and mortality.…”

“…The providers should be driven to improve their organizational effectiveness through the analysis of the organizational model present to determine the types of delay and take actions aimed at the specific organizational and logistical causes that represent a barrier to early surgery. In this regard, the literature already offers strategies to remove the most commonly documented causes of operational delay, such as education, peer review, and multidisciplinary approaches [30], which are included in successful strategies for reducing physician-caused delay, including the surgeon and anaesthesiologist [29].…”

“…In this issue of the Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews, Cox Bauer et al provide an elegant and interesting initial foray into the causes for delay of first-case operating room start times. 1 Among the study's main findings were that 88% of first-ofthe-day scheduled surgical cases were delayed, and despite late arrival of the patient to the hospital 65% of the time, almost 60% of delayed cases had no listed reason for the delay. A number of potential predictor variables were explored for inclusion in fixed-effects logistic regression models, and key time intervals were investigated.…”
