Fire Properties of Intumescent Coating Systems for the Rolling Stock

Abstract: Use of the powder metallurgy (PM) in production of various components has been growing in the automotive industry, including production of sintered stainless steels (SSSs). This study aims to improve the functional properties of SSSs by formation of the Cr3C2-NiCr coating by APS method. The next stage involved alloying of the surface of SSSs using the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Analysis of microstructures was carried out using microscopy (metallographic microscope and scanning electron microscope). Furth… Show more

“…The commercialization of scientific research results must have economic value for stakeholders, meaning it must either significantly improve the quality of products and services [25][26][27] or reduce costs, including the management of production and service processes [28]. Scientific outcomes in the STEM field are typically associated with either typical material-related problems within the scope of materials engineering [29][30][31], especially in the case of special alloys [32,33], or machinerelated issues [34,35], which encounter specific problems beyond the competence and cognition of an average engineer, particularly in the railway industry [36], issues related to wear [37], including fatigue of welded joints [38,39] and hydraulic power systems [40]. The demand for scientific support also arises in the case of particularly advanced technologies associated with coatings [41][42][43] and surface layer [44].…”

“…The benefits derived from such shaping techniques for compensators include energy consumption reduction [40] and less environmental pollution through waste separation [41]. The reliability of machinery [42] equipped with them, including railway rolling stock [43], significantly increases. This increased reliability does not go unnoticed by a customer known for their exceptionally high-quality standards: the military [44].…”

“…In addition to the primary benefits of increased reliability and safety, it also leads to lower energy consumption [53], thereby increasing the applicability of pneumatic cushion transporters, both as standalone systems and as part of larger devices [54][55][56], posing competition to typical wheeled or conveyor-based transportation [57]. The military has long recognized the advantages of such transportation, especially in the case of air-cushion landing crafts [58][59][60].…”
