“…described severity of fire blight in natural conditions for numerous pear cultivars and species from the National Collection of Romania. Al-Dahmashi and Khlaif (2004) reported that quince varieties 'Assansah' and 'Humice', pear varieties 'Comice' and 'Coscia', and apple varieties 'Royal Gala', 'Golden Mor Spur' and 'Fuji' were susceptible, and that apple variety 'Delbarestival' and pear variety 'Williams' were moderately susceptible to fire blight.…”

“…The susceptibility of PI1/6 to fire blight was probably due to its parent Kontoula which is very susceptible to this disease (unpublished data). BC Williams has been reported as a moderately susceptible cultivar to fire blight (Al-Dahmashi, Khlaif 2004;Severin et al 1999).…”

“…All species from the Rosaceae family except European plum (Prunus domestica) supported epiphytic populations of the pathogen, whereas nonrosaceous plants were generally poor supporters of epiphytic growth. Similarly, rosaceous ornamental shrubs like Cotoneaster, Crataegus, Malus, Pyracantha and Sorbus taxa in the vicinity of orchards can also serve as important inoculum sources, but still, despite warnings and regulations, no sufficient attention is paid to them (Thomson et al 1975;Al-Dahmashi and Khlaif 2004;Bubán 2007). Even though populations of E. amylovora present on flowers of alternate hosts may not cause disease, the flowers of rosaceous non-disease-host species could serve as potential sites of inoculum increase during their periods of bloom, because vectors of E. amylovora, principally bees, visit many kinds of flowers in landscape areas between pear and apple orchards (Johnson et al 2006;Bubán 2007).…”
