Fire Behaviour of Insulation Panels Commonly Used in High-Rise Buildings

Abstract: The energy efficiency of buildings drives the replacement of traditional construction materials with lightweight insulating materials. However, energy-efficient but combustible insulation might contribute to the building’s fire load. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse the reaction-to-fire properties of various insulating materials to provide a better understanding of designing a fire-safe structure. In this study, reaction-to-fire tests were carried out to assess the fire behaviour of lightweight polystyren… Show more

“…Research in the field regarding this has rarely conducted through real experiments [43][44][45]. Most research has took the form of experiments to monitor "reaction-on-fire" parameters [46,47]. Contribution 4 is dedicated to this area of research, and in this paper, attention is drawn to the creation of software models, as in the work of other authors [48][49][50].…”

“…This helps to ensure that the products meet the required standards and are fit for their intended purpose. Moreover, for ensuring safety and reliability, material properties are crucial parameters to evaluate structures and systems [ 4 , 5 ]. Knowing the properties of materials used in critical applications such as aerospace, automotive, or medical devices can help prevent failure or accidents.…”

“…In recent years, fires affecting the façades of buildings, whether they have thermal insulation or not, have received significant attention [39,40]. This increased focus is due to incidents resulting in either loss of human lives or purely material losses [39].…”
