FIR Absorption in Monoclinic ZnAs<sub>2</sub>

Raman scattering (RS) in CdAsa semiconducting crystals has been studied. The RS spectra have been recorded in the backscattering configuration with the i = 514.5 nm line of an ion argon laser at 50 mW output level, at room temperature. The recorded RS spectra have brought some evidence of the quasi-molecular character of the crystal lattice dynamics. The phonon modes at frequencies within the interval 180 to 270 cm-l are attributed to the arsenic atom-chain oscillations. There is some evidence of correlation splitting to occur for these high-frequcncy phonons. The modes at frequencies inferior to about 180 cm-' are attributed to the ones with important contribution of cadmium atoms and they resemble external modes in molecular crystals.La diffusion Raman (RS) dans les cristaux semiconductcurs du CdAsz a ktk ktudike. Les spectres RS enregistrks apportaient unc certain kvidence d'un caract&re quasi-moleculair de la dynamique du rkseau de ce cristal. Les niodcs phononiques aux frCquences de l'interval 180 a 270 cm~-l sont attribuks aux oscillations des heliccs de I'arseniure. I1 y a aussi une Qvidence certaine de l'effet de correlation-splitting dam les spectres de phonons de hautes frkquences. Les modes aux frkquences inferieur B 180 cm-l sont attribuks aux modes avec une contribution importante des atoms du cadmium et ils ressemblent des modes externaux des cristaux moleculaires.

Elastic properties of monoclinic ZnAs2 crystal are studied under the PBEsol scheme using the CRYSTAL Program. Independent elastic stiffness coefficients have been computed. Various elastic properties, such as shear modulus, bulk modulus, Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio have been analyzed. The directional dependence of the computed Young’s modulus and linear compressibility is studied using ELATE software. Our investigation reveals the finite elastic anisotropy of the monoclinic ZnAs2 crystal.
