Finite Element Modelling of a Pair of Flexible Elements Contact Preloaded and Externally Loaded with an Arbitrary Force

Abstract: In the paper, the numerical tests of the contact of a pair of flexible elements were presented. The non-linear phenomena occurring in the contact zone of two elements have been considered separately for the assembly and operational condition of the joint. The physical and mathematical models of the contact joint created using the finite element method were proposed. The contact joint is treated as a system composed of the subsystems: two of them are joined elements and the third one is the contact layer betwee… Show more

“…Grzejda et al [22][23][24] studied the problem of multi-bolt connections in asymmetric structures, focusing on the effect of the tightening sequence on the preload. Grzejda 25 studied the contact problem of flexible primitives using the finite element method to develop mathematical and physical models describing the connection structure. Grzejda 26,27 studied the modelling and computation of the assembly process of asymmetric multibolt structures, and the problem of distributed pressures in the structure was investigated by means of two types of connection models.…”

“…It was discovered that the tension was distributed more uniformly in joints with more rigid gaskets. Many papers have investigated the impact of various contact issues on the accuracy of the numerical solution [9][10][11]. Moreover, studies [12,13] analysed the influence of the rigidity of a gasket on the bolts' tension level caused by the increase in pressure of the sealed medium.…”

“…It is one of the most accurate methods of this type [ 38 ]; therefore, it is also implemented in this article. The research described in this study can be used to verify the innovative method of modelling nonlinear asymmetric multi-bolted connections presented in [ 39 , 40 ].…”
