Finite Element and Finite Volume Modelling of Friction Drilling HSLA Steel under Experimental Comparison

Abstract: Friction drilling is a widely used process to produce bushings in sheet materials, which are processed further by thread forming to create a connection port. Previous studies focused on the process parameters and did not pay detailed attention to the material flow of the bushing. In order to describe the material behaviour during a friction drilling process realistically, a detailed material characterisation was carried out. Temperature, strain rate, and rolling direction dependent tensile tests were performed… Show more

“…74 Finite element software provides a variety of algorithms for the simulation of frictionless and frictional contact. 75 However, contact calculations between soft tissues might not converge well, especially when the soft tissue contact surface undergoes large deformation. Ateshian et al suggested that the FEBio software might be able to solve this problem.…”

“…It has been suggested that the coefficient of friction of the knee joint with lubrication of the joint fluid and hydration of the cartilage is approximately 0.01, 73 and 0.02 was also used in some studies 74 . “…Then, based on the relationship among stress, strain and displacement and the principle of virtual work, the mechanical properties of the elements are analyzed one by one. Finally, the whole structural equations of the research object are established, and the final solution result is obtained by solving the equations [16].…”
