Finite-Element Analysis and Experiment of Current Superimposition Variable Flux Machine Using Permanent Magnet

Abstract: We have proposed a current superimposition variable flux reluctance machine that can control its torque constant. This machine can be operated by using a 6-phase superimposition current composed of AC-armature and DC-field currents. In this paper, we propose a current superimposition variable flux machine using permanent magnets. The permanent magnets increase the DC magnetic flux. First, the structure and operational principle of this machine are described. Next, the torque characteristics are computed under … Show more

“…The force of the mover due to the 3-phase magnetic flux and 6-phase AC is defined as follows: From 7and (8), the interference of the force is zero. Thus, the movers can be independently driven [7,8]. The proposed actuator is controlled using vector control, and 3-phase and 6-phase ACs are transformed into d-q axis.…”

“…Flux leakage was calculated by Li and Chau [15], where the possible flux paths of a PM linear vernier machine were analyzed and identified with an ideal flux source, making it suitable only for bar PMs. FEA has become the first choice of method for electromagnetic calculations on account of its great applicability and accuracy [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]; however, FEA cannot obtain the exact results with a low computational cost. The lumped parameter analytical method (LPAM) of an electromagnetic system depends solely on simple empirical formulae and these calculations are very imprecise.…”
