Abstract:A finite-difference method is used to solve the system of equations governing the hypersonic air wake with nonequilibrium chemistry; both laminar and turbulent transports are considered. Numerical results for laminar flow are compared with results of an integral method. Additional calculations for turbulent flow are presented to show some effects of the oxygen-electron attachment process in the far wake, and of the choice of the model of turbulent diffusivity. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
