Fingerprinting and Determination of Hepatotoxic Constituents in Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata of Different Producing Places by HPLC

Abstract: Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata (PMRP) is used as Chinese herbal medicine with long history. However, reports about PMRP hepatotoxicity have increased recently, and producing area might be one reason. This article aims to figure out the relationship between producing area and hepatotoxic ingredients in PMRP. HPLC fingerprint for PMRP was established and the contents of gallic acid, trans-stilbene glycoside (TSG), emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside (EG), emodin and physcion were determined. Clustering heatmap was im… Show more

“…19 The most common and convenient detection method is highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC) because of its good separation, high analysis speed, high selectivity, and wide application range. 20 With the development of data mining technology, fingerprinting combined with chemometric analysis has been widely used for quality evaluation and screening of differential markers in Chinese medicine. 21,22 Therefore, the method can also be used for quality control of THL.…”

“…Chromatography fngerprint is a comprehensive and quantifable analysis method that can elucidate the complexity and relevance of components [17]. Te most commonly and conveniently used detection methods for fngerprint establishment are chromatography and spectrometry, among which high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has the advantages of high separation, fast analysis speed, good selectivity, and wide application range [18][19][20]. HPLC is based on the principle that substances reach equilibrium through multiple partitioning between two liquid phases and uses the diference in partition coefcients of the components in the two phases for separation, preparation, and collection.…”

“…In order to protect the PGI products, researchers have put forward a fingerprint tracing method, that is, using chemical parameters to build the fingerprint of geographical indication products [ 4 ] and comparing it with the fingerprint of the testing sample to determine whether the testing sample is the geographical indication product. At present, the chemical parameters used in the traceability of animal-origin food include stable isotopes [ 5 ], mineral elements [ 6 ], fatty acid content [ 7 , 8 ], amino acid content [ 9 ], and metabolites [ 10 ].…”
