Fingerprint Body Myopathy: a Report of Twins

Abstract

SUMMARY Ultramicroscopic changes of subsarcolemmal fingerprints in the muscle of children with infantile hypotonia and weakness may represent a specific congenital entity. Four children have been reported so far. The two children reported in the present paper are the first full siblings to be described and, in addition, are identical twins. Four of these six children also had mental retardation, which suggests that this disorder may carry with it a significant risk of central nervous system abnormality. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Fingerprint body myopathy: Ein Bericht über Zwillinge Ultramikroskopische Veränderungen der Fingerprints im Subsarkolem der Muskulatur von Kindern mit Infantiler Hypotonie und Muskelschwäche repräsentieren möglicherweise eine kongenitale Einheit. Vier Kinder sind bisher beschrieben worden. Die zwei Kinder, über die in der vorliegenden Arbeit berichtet wird, sind die ersten Geschwister und darüber hinaus eineiige Zwillinge. Vier dieser sechs Kinder waren ausserdem geistig retardiert, was vermuten lässt, dass diese Erkrankung ein erhebliches Risiko für Missbildungen im Zentralnervensystem in sich trägt. Hasta el momento se han aportado cuatro niños. Los dos niños aportados en la presente comunicación son los primeros gemelos descritos, y por otra parte se trataba de gemelos idénticos. Cuatro de estos seis niños tenían también retraso mental, lo cual sugiere que esa alteración puede ocurrir con un significativo riesgo de anomalia del sistema nervioso central.
