Abstract:ABSTRACT. It is shown that a uniformizable space X is normal iff the locally finite topology eT on the hyperspace 2X coincides with the topology transmitted by the fine uniformity of X. We also prove that, for X normal, the topology eT is first countable only if the set of limit points X' of X is countably compact. Applications of these results to pseudocompactness and Atsuji spaces are given.

“…With P.L. Sharma [148], Som proved that a Tychonoff space is normal if and only if the locally finite topology on its closed subsets coincides with the hyperspace topology determined by the fine uniformity on X. This shows that in the context of normal spaces, the locally finite topology is a uniform notion.…”

“…It was shown in [2] that for a metrizable space X , τ L on 2 X is the supremum of all the Hausdorff metric topologies corresponding to equivalent metrics on X . Further, it was shown in [16] that for a normal space X , τ L on 2 X coincides with the Hausdorff-Bourbaki uniform topology induced by the fine uniformity on X .…”
Recently, some techniques have been developed for the study of the Baire property in hyperspaces. These techniques have been applied to solve a long-standing open problem of McCoy in 1975 and a recent open problem of Zsilinszky. In this paper, we extend and apply these techniques further to investigate the Baire property of hyperspaces equipped with the general hit-and-miss topology.
Dedicated to Professor S. Naimpally on the occasion of his 70 th birthday.Abstract. developability of hyperspace topologies (locally finite, (bounded) Vietoris, Fell, respectively) on the nonempty closed sets is characterized. Submetrizability and having a G δ -diagonal in the hyperspace setting is also discussed.2000 AMS Classification: 54B20.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
