Fine structure of Drosophila larval salivary gland ducts as revealed by laser confocal microscopy and SEM

Abstract: http://www.eje.cz plays a dual role in this process, by both starting and then terminating a specifi c developmental program of protein synthesis required for the production of these secretory granules. Upon a dramatic increase in the ecdysone titer a few hours prior to pupariation, the contents of the granules are released by exocytosis into the SG lumen, which is then emptied by expectoration during puparium formation (Lane et al., 1972;von Gaudecker, 1972;Berendes & Ashburner, 1978;Farkaš & Šuťáková, 1998) … Show more

“…In fact, heterochromaJn packing contributes to the maintenance of the sJffness of the nuclear envelope, nucleolus morphology and the normal funcJon of the nuclear pore complexes (Ballmer et al 2023;Shevelyov 2023;BusJn and Misteli 2016). To analyze in more detail the possible effects of salm/salr funcJons on chromaJn, we studied the consequences of salm/salr knockdowns in the salivary gland, a secretory epithelium formed by large polyploid cells (Denisa et al 2021;Haberman et al 2003). The spalt genes are expressed in the nuclei of all salivary gland cells (Fig.…”
