Fine Particle Filtration Technology Using Fiber as Dust Collection Medium

Abstract: Researches relating dust collector using fiber as particle collection body i.e., air filter, cartridge filter and nonwoven bag filter, were reviewed. Their filtration process was classified into 3 stages, i.e., Stage 1.inner filtration I, Stage 2.inner filtration II and Stage 3.surface filtration. Collection mechanisms of fresh circular fiber have been well understood and so-called classic filtration theory is applicable except single nano-particle, where discussion about the possibility of thermal rebound is … Show more

“…A predominant filter medium used in the inlet air filters in modern combustion engines are filter papers (porous material), characterized by separation efficiency d z ≥ 5 µm, filtration performance of φ w = 99.9%, low thickness g m = 0.4–0.8 mm, and small ( k m = 200–250 g/m 2 ) dust mass loading limited by a permissible pressure drop Δ p fdop of the air filter [ 32 , 33 ]. Filter paper retains dust particles at the fibers of a porous filter media as a result of different forces and separation mechanisms [ 34 , 35 ].…”

“…Therefore, air filters are mostly employed to further purify low‐particle‐concentration gases for applications like clean rooms or building air conditioning. Due to the difference in their uses, bag filters and air filters tend to be considered as completely different particle collecting devices, but they are both fiber‐filled layer filters using said fibers as a collecting body 2.…”

“…Similar to this structure, the cylindrical structure is used for a fiber filter to reduce the trade-off between resistance and efficiency. A cylindrical structure has a larger filtration area and higher filtration efficiency at the same resistance [40][41][42], often used in automobile filters and aviation filters [43,44]. Based on the above analysis, we have designed a cylindrical micro-electrostatic filter.…”
