“…There are various methods to collect data, such as survey tools and written questionnaire (Gu & Johnson, 1996;Fan,2003), interview (Gu 2003;Parks & Raymond,2004), think-aloud or verbal reports (Anderson & Vandergrift,1996;Goh,1998;Nassaji,2003), diaries or dialogue journal (Carson & Longhini,2002;Oxford, Lavine, Felkins, Hollaway & Saleh, 1996), recollective narratives (Oxford, Lavine, Felkins, Hollaway & Saleh, 1996). “…We should not be blind to the fact that a number of recent research studies have documented the use of text recitation by high-achieving Chinese English learners (Gao, 2007;Gu, 2003). In fact, an increasing number of contemporary Western researchers (e.g., Pennycook, 1996;Sowden, 2005;Watkins & Biggs, 1996) have recognised that recitation, a highly valued way of learning in the Far East, can lead to high levels of understanding if applied appropriately.…”

“…Hence, it is one of the main ways to triangulate and further enrich the data and has been employed in various studies on vocabulary learning (Bennet, 2006;Gu, 2003). Triangulation of data collection methods also ensured the validity and reliability of the information that was gathered because human instruments can be as fallible as any other forms of research instruments.…”
