Final state interactions in the decays J/ψ→VPP

Abstract: We investigate the interplay between crossed channel final state interactions and the constraints from two-particle unitarity for the reactions J/ψ → V ππ and V KK, where V is either ω or φ. Using a model where the parameters are largely constrained by other sources, we find that, although small, crossed channel final state interaction can influence the amplitudes considerably, in special areas of phase space. These results cast doubt on the inapplicability of unitarity constraints on production amplitudes as … Show more

“…According to this picture, a series of reactions where these resonances are formed were studied and, with no extra parameters than those needed in the study of meson-meson scattering, predictions were made for cross sections or other observables in these reactions. Examples of it are the reactions φ → π 0 π 0 γ, π 0 ηγ [18], the J/ψ → φ(ω)f 0 [19][20][21][22], the J/ψ → ppππ reaction [23] or the photoproduction of f 0 (980) on nucleons [24].…”

“…Theoretical studies of J/ψ decay into a vector meson and two pseudoscalars have already been done in Refs. [17][18][19]. The impact of the effects of coupled-channel dynamics has been investigated in [17] and has then been improved on the basis of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and unitarity constraints in [18].…”

“…Present evaluation is meant as a continuation of the full decay analysis presented in [6] but now we include the additional constraints set by J/ψ decays involving these scalars. At this stage we do not consider explicitly the mixing of the scalar resonances induced by the continuum decay channels, we also neglect final state interaction in the decay modes (note that inclusion of final-state interaction in J/ψ three-body decays has been done in [19])-both interaction mechanisms are higher-order effects in the framework of our perturbative considerations. We are interested to give predictions for scalar resonance contributions to J/ψ decay modes where the physical nature of the scalar resonances f i = f 0 (1370), f 0 (1500) and f 0 (1710) can possibly be tested.…”
