Abstract: Octoxynols are ethoxylated alkylphenols in which the size of the molecule is related to the number of moles of ethylene oxide used in synthesis. Reactions are performed at elevated temperature, under pressure, and in the presence of NaOH. It is possible that the synthesis may leave trace amounts of ethylene oxide, 1,4-dioxane, and unreacted C9 phenols. Octoxynols of various chain lengths as well as octoxynol salts and organic acids function in cosmetics either as surfactants—emulsifying agents, surfactants—cle… Show more

“…), or using surfactants (e.g., Tween 20 or Tween 80). However, in many cases, these might be insufficient, and at high concentrations, many are cytotoxic, negatively affecting the efficacy of the natural material which is under investigation (Dayeh et al, 2004;Johnson, 2004;Ravindran et al, 2011;Kaur and Mehta, 2017).…”

“…The osmotic pressure of the eye is 248~371 mOsmol/kg, while the osmotic pressure of Cequa ® is 170 mOsmol/ kg. Johnson et al [23] studied the eye irritation test of octoxynols surfactant and concluded that the use of octoxynols products around the eyes should be avoided. Abhirup et al [24] studied selfassembled multilayer nanomicelles composed of two polymers (polyoxyethylene Hydrogenated Castor Oil (HCO-40) and octoxynol-40).…”
