Fin‐spines attachment, a novel external attachment method for the ultrasonic transmitters on hard fin‐spines fish (Sparidae)

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to develop a novel method for the external attachment of ultrasonic transmitters on hard fin‐spines fish (Sparidae). Acanthopagrus latus, one of the main stocking Sparidae fishes in the northern South China Sea, was employed to conduct the 40‐day tank experiment by using dummy ultrasonic transmitters. The experiment consisted of 3 treatment groups, i.e., drilling on dorsal fin‐spine (DD) group, drilling on anal fin‐spine (DA) group, and control (C) group, with each group having 3 … Show more

“…Evaluation of the effectiveness of artificial breeding and release depends on the specific objectives of the measure, and generally focuses on the growth of fry and the contribution to target fish resources as well as the related economic, ecological and social benefits (Rytwinski et al., 2021). Ecological restoration aims at conserving endangered species, and the evaluation mainly focuses on the survival rate and natural reproduction of artificially hatched fry after release (Lyu et al., 2021). Resource restoration aims at restoring fishery resources and improving the economic benefits of fisheries, and thus the evaluation has mainly focused on the catch rate.…”

“…In China, fisheries management with most fishing vessels and most fishermen seem to be the most complex in the world (Huang and He, 2019). The administrative departments of fishery in China have carried out a series of measures to improve marine fishery resources, such as summer fishing moratorium, minimum mesh size regulation, fishing license system, the socalled "Double Control" system, fishery stock enhancement programs, establishment of artificial reefs, and placements of aquatic germplasm resource-protection areas, which belong primarily to the input and technical control management, whereas the effect is limited (Shen and Heino, 2014;Lyu et al, 2021;Zhang et al, 2021). In 2000, the government of China revised the Fishery Law of the People's Republic of China, making it clear that China will determine TAC and implement an FQ system (Gu, 2018).…”

“…Since the evaluation of stocking success (including ecological and economic aspects) (Bell et al, 2006;Kitada, 2018) is time-consuming and expensive, modeling the stocking programs with simulation can help us assess and improve the stocking programs (Ingram, and De Silva, 2015). The evaluation of stocking effects is also a part of fish stock assessment; most of the stock assessment techniques can be used to estimate the stocks and biological parameters of released populations, such as natural mortality, release mortality (Benaka et al, 2014), post-release survival, and recapture rate (Kitada et al, 1992;Støttrup et al, 2002;Lyu et al, 2021). The optimization of the release strategy must consider the technique for breeding the stocked species and fishing, and also the tradeoffs between the costs of breeding and the benefits of stocking (Kellison and Eggleston, 2004).…”
