Filtering Power Divider Design Using Resonant LC Branches for 5G Low-Band Applications

Abstract: This paper proposes an ultra-compact filtering power divider with a wide harmonic suppression band. In this design, the proposed power divider (PD) in the ideal case has 100% size reduction and an infinite number of harmonics suppression. However, in the real case, the proposed divider has a 92% size reduction and suppresses the 2nd to 45th harmonics. The small-proposed divider is designed at 0.9 GHz. The typical Wilkinson divider has two long quarter-wavelength branches. In the proposed design, new resonant s… Show more

“…The advantage of microstrip filters and antennas, as small as they are, is that they get easily connected in order of IoT sensors, edge computing devices, and other compact systems. Such reduced capacity helps to deploy the communication systems in situations that have restrictions of space, where space can be scarce (for example, fog and edge computing scenarios) [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Also, microstrip filters and antennas offer a cost-effective solution for communication in fog, cloud, and edge computing systems.…”

“…Periodically, loaded slow-wave structures are modified for different targets, including dual-band applications [20,21], SiGe BiCMOS processes [22], filtering power dividers having resonant LC branches [23], etc. In some structures, coupled lines are used to suppress undesirable harmonics so that the signal can be transmitted within the desired frequency region [24].…”

“…Additionally, lumped reactive components such as capacitors and inductors are used in microwave circuits to provide a bandpass response, such as in [ 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Applied lumped reactive components increase insertion loss, which is not desirable.…”
