Filmmaking by students or rethinking thinking

Abstract

As proPIC partners in Kiel, the area of expertise we brought into the project was filmmaking in teacher training as an innovative learning approach. In 2013, the so-called Viducation project was launched at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Kiel (CAU) as a reaction to the new Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts degree programmes in order to improve students’ learning skills and core competences by creating subject-related videos. Filmmaking by students is already widely used in primary and secondary schools (Reid, Burn, & Parker, 2002), while teacher education is still hardly prepared for it (as shown for German teacher education training, Müller, 2012).
