Filgrastim induced thrombocytopenia

Abstract: Drug-induced thrombocytopenia (DITP) is suggested by severe thrombocytopenia with subsequent recovery of platelet count after removal of the offending drug. The diagnosis is ascertained when there is reproducibility of thrombocytopenia with repeated exposure. Filgrastim is used during peripheral blood progenitor cell harvest during autologous stem cell transplantation in the setting of multiple myeloma to prolong event-free survival and overall mortality. The following case illustrates all of the suggestive fe… Show more

“…Internal formula validation in our centre evidenced several benefits. Despite the fact that using the formula resulted in an increase of TBVs processed in most groups of patients, as a consequence, it was possible to reduce the number of aphereses in individuals younger than 60 years; this led to a lower use of G-CSF and plerixafor with the consequent lower exposure to adverse effects of these drugs [17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…Other possible side effects refer to pulmonary involvement ranging from respiratory failure due [38] to interstitial pneumonia [39][40][41][42][43][44] (mostly due to increased toxicity of other drugs), or hepatic [45][46][47], renal [19,48,49] (with transient hematuria [50] during long-term treatment), and hematologic symptoms [51][52][53][54][55][56][57].…”
