“…Most of these tests have been dependent on histidine loading, and it would appear that they are not physiological. In agreement with Lewis, Moore and Morris (1962), we believe that they are in effect tolerance tests, and their interpretation is then difficult unless the previous baseline FIGLU excretion is known. This is particularly pertinent in the case of pregnancy (Chanarin, Rothman and Watson-Williams, 1963) or in other altered metabolic states which are so frequently associated with folate deficiency.…”
