Field Weakening Characteristics Computed with FEM-Coupled Algorithms for Brushless AC Motors

Abstract: Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis tools are the most adopted in the design of brushless alternating current motors due to the advantage of considering multi-physics effects with dependencies of variables such as cross-coupling, saturation and others that are not possible to be modeled analytically with high precision. During the design process designers compute operation points such as maximum torque per ampere or flux weakening characteristics that cannot be targeted directly on the FEM tool. Therefore, de… Show more

“…The robustness of the controller is supported by the use of adaptive methods. Large-capacity microcontrollers can improve controller board design and software required for estimation, which iteratively targets the match simultaneously [42][43][44][45][46][47][48]. Figure 3 illustrates a conceptual representation of such iterative real-time matching.…”

“…For more information, see the Ph.D. thesis of C. Hernandez, GeePs, 2010. Energy conversion drives are supervised in several ways depending on the nature of the application with respect to the needed accuracy and the response time required, ranging from slow to instantaneous, see e.g., [42][43][44][45][46][47][48]. Nevertheless, we need the most accurate model of the drive involved in control, which allows for efficient and robust supervision.…”

“…The performance comparison is computed on the Maximum Ampere per Torque (MTPA) curve for the operating points. Previously developed FEM-coupled algorithms [24] are employed to do so. All performance results presented in this paper apply the same post-process methods using the equivalent circuits shown in Figures 2 and 3.…”

“…(1) a knowledge base generation process based on MOKA methodology (MOKA stands for Methodology and software tools Oriented to Knowledge based engineering Applications); this methodology implementation is new regarding the electric machine domain. Furthermore, it provides a specific knowledge base structure and management implementation in a SysML tool; (2) the systematic implementation of macro-processes by the adaptation of VDI-2221/2206 standards to the electric machine design development process [12]; (3) the use of a set of micro-processes known by electric machine designers and some new ones recently published by the research team [13,14]; and (4) finally, a real KBE system implementation example for the elevator industry that shows the novelty of an architecture that allows less software development effort for the creation of a complete KBE system solution by integrating commercial SW tools.…”
